🔥the 'korea army' t-shirt is apparently on every street in korea right now, and nobody seems to have bought theirs

small one but i find this funny. an instiz post today with just one photo and the title "the t-shirt everyone's wearing on the street lately"

it's the black korea army tee. context for non-koreans: most korean men do about a year and a half of military service, and these shirts come out of that. soldiers get them issued (the issued ones are more dark green) or buy them at the PX on base, and they come home with a pile. then the whole family starts wearing them the comments (30+ in a few hours) turned into a confession booth: "men, women, students, ahjussis, everyone wears it lol" "honestly there's even more ROKA than this one" (ROKA = Republic of Korea Army, the other army tee) "my brother brought one home, i liked it, told him to bring more, he brought five. now it's my pajamas, walking shirt and gym shirt" "my elementary schooler wants one, i keep saying next summer" "there's tons on coupang" and another person saying when they went to work at coupang, everyone there was wearing it and one person living abroad said a coworker came back from a business trip in korea saying there were soldiers all over the streets, and now wonders if it was just people in these shirts lol so it's half comfy basics, half "someone in my family served and this is the souvenir." is there a shirt like this where you live, the one everyone owns but nobody bought? thoughts?

Can confirm. My office gym looks like a recruitment poster. Mine is from my brother too, I don't think anyone here actually buys these

Where would a tourist get one though? Asking for me

6Lukas932026.10.05

Is it fine for civilians to wear them? In some countries wearing army stuff when you didn't serve gets you side-eye

5Tariq2026.10.05

Comments said Coupang, but faster route: find a Korean friend with a brother. Apparently they have five

5Tenzin2026.10.05

So that's what ROKA means. I always wondered why so many shirts in dramas said it

Nobody cares here, it's a tee. It reads more like 'someone in my family served' than pretending you did

Also when you're on your 5th one, it stops being army stuff and becomes just "the black shirt"

Same, I thought ROKA was a brand for years

5offside_oppa2026.10.05

This is the football jersey of Korea. Everyone has one, nobody remembers paying for it

7JunseoOP2026.10.05

exactly lol. and like jerseys, the 'real' one from someone who was actually there counts more

6Ingrid2026.10.07

The away kit is ROKA, apparently. Every club needs two

Coupang ships pretty much anywhere with a Korean address, so if your hotel or Airbnb takes parcels that's the easy route

5cryingagain2026.10.05

'Told him to bring more and he brought five' is the real love story here

Five shirts. That brother deserves a medal more than the army ever gave him

5lyric.thief2026.10.07

"I'll be there for you" but the shirt version. Five times

5lol_true2026.10.06

lol true, my friend came back from Seoul with one

The shirt that's pajamas, gym clothes and walking clothes at the same time is the most efficient garment ever made

6pixel_gremlin2026.10.06

PC bang uniform in my head. Every guy at the next seat in a black army tee and slippers

6ppalli_ppalli2026.10.06

Vocab: 군대 (gundae) = the military. "군대 티" is what people call these. Nobody says the full name

50xDEAD2026.10.07

ROKA or ARMY, which one is the real flex? Deadpan answer: ROKA. It's in the lore

5Putri2026.10.07

This is so wholesome. A souvenir that's from your brother and not from a gift shop

5Yasmin2026.10.07

Every country has one. Ours is a supermarket football shirt from 2006 that somehow every uncle owns

4Elif2026.10.07

is the issued one actually better quality than the coupang ones?

7Nari2026.10.07

Busan is the same. You see three of these on the subway and start wondering if there's a drill happening

6Mateo2026.10.07

Random fact I read: the PX is the shop on base where soldiers buy snacks and stuff. Apparently the snacks there are famous too

7Sebin2026.10.07

It's sweet that it became a family thing instead of a "you didn't serve, take it off" thing

5Kasia2026.10.07

My elementary schooler comment is so cute. Kid wants to look like the uncle

6Jaehee2026.10.07

I don't have a free shirt like this, I just have a hoodie from a uni I didn't go to. Same energy?

5jaywalker2026.10.07

So the trend is that people are wearing free clothes. Groundbreaking reporting, I love it

5nunchi_zero2026.10.07

I'd wear one and someone would ask me which unit and I'd just have to leave the country

6Hajun2026.10.07

In the UK the equivalent is a free t-shirt from a 10k run you didn't actually run. Someone's mum did

6ice_cold_takes2026.10.07

The soldiers-all-over-the-streets story is the best part. Imagine reporting a military takeover that was just a laundry day
