1.32 km behind Cheong Wa Dae, closed for almost 60 years, open from Saturday 9am. Already told the in-laws it's on the list for the next Seoul day. Pic is the old part of the trail with the pine marked for its bullet holes, not the new section.

The way back is the only time anyone reads anything on a mountain. Before that it's just breathing.

7Nari2026.10.16

Nice that it's finally open, the old section was already worth it. Go early or just accept you're hiking with half of Seoul.

my father-in-law reads every plaque out loud at each stop. no wikipedia needed, just patience

7orbit_kid2026.10.16

only in seoul do you hike past bullet holes on your lunch-break mountain

6Fizzwick2026.10.16

closed for 60 years and the first review will be 'too many people' lmao

Did the older Bugaksan section last spring, the views over Gyeongbokgung are unreal. Bring water, it's steeper than it looks.

Water, and a snack that survives a backpack. Kimbap, it's built for this.

7hanriver.walk2026.10.16

the in-laws are always the ones who know the history bits, mine told me the whole 1968 story on that trail

in-laws are always the best tour guides, they remember every date and it's very dramatic 🥹✨

I walk past bullet holes on my lunch break and think about sandwiches. Seoul is a lot.

bullet holes on the lunch mountain and i can't even get my coworkers to walk to the mailbox

8Taeho2026.10.16

That 1968 raid is a story most foreigners have never heard. Worth reading up on before you go.

went down a wikipedia hole on the 1968 raid before my first walk up there. do the reading on the way back, not on the way up

6soju_sundays2026.10.16

Never heard of the 1968 thing until now. Just looked it up and wow, reading that before a hike is a different kind of cardio.

Saturday 9am on opening day, I'd bet on a crowd. Shoes with grip, not the cute ones.

↳
7Dahye2026.10.16

Shoes with grip is the real advice here. I once wore white sneakers up a mountain trail and the sneakers did not survive.

7Soomin2026.10.16

Hike first, then whatever food is nearest the exit. That's my entire review process for any trail

7Geonwoo2026.10.16

Closed for almost 60 years, opens Saturday morning. Seoul will treat it like a limited-time event and queue accordingly.

7Junseo2026.10.16

opening morning will be a queue situation. weekday early if you can swing it, the in-laws' schedule permitting

↳
8Dabin2026.10.16

opening morning queue plus in-laws plus 1.32km. i'll go on a rainy tuesday and pretend i'm the only one there
