๐Ÿ”ฅonly 11.4% of people in Korea wash their hands the 'proper' way

Only about 1 in 10 people in Korea wash their hands properly after the toilet, going by a KDCA survey that watched people at 120 public bathrooms around the country. Proper here means soap and at least 30 seconds. The average wash was 13.9 seconds. 46.7% used soap, 39.3% just rinsed with water, and 14% walked straight out. Women used soap more than men (52.9% vs 40.5%), and people in their 20s were the best at it. Soap in public loos is hit or miss, so I'd bet a chunk of the water-only crowd are just making do. The 14% who skip it altogether have no excuse though.

13.9 seconds is not even one happy birthday song. the 30 second rule needs a jingle

I'd like to see the soap number split by whether the dispenser actually had soap in it. a chunk of that 39.3% water-only might just be the bathroom's fault.

in my experience the dispenser is empty or that pink water that foams into nothing. i'd put at least some of the 39% on the supply side, not the people

Two rounds of happy birthday. Easy.

my office bathroom has been out of soap since july so i'd trust the 39% a lot more than the headline. blame the dispenser first

don't look up the numbers for other countries, you'll never touch a door handle again

Someone's job was to stand in 120 public bathrooms and watch people wash their hands. I need to know how they got that assignment.
