🔥For slow Sunday nights: Between Steps

8TaehoAm2026.10.13 15:19👁 2159💬 27♥ 56

If you want something loud and fast this autumn, skip this. If you want a drama for the kind of evening where you make tea and do nothing else, Between Steps (연애박사) is the one I'd point you to. It's the last drama by director Ahn Pan Seok, the man behind Something in the Rain and One Spring Night. You can feel it in every shot. Long silences, people eating together in a student cafeteria, conversations that stop halfway. Choo Young Woo plays Park Min Jae, a former swimmer who lost his right leg to illness, and Kim So Hyun plays Im Yoo Jin, a graduate student who has lost her direction. They meet in a robotics lab.

The ratings are not kind. It started at 1.8%, went up to 2.4%, and episode 3, the one right after their first kiss, dropped to 2.1%. Tenasia's headline basically said "they kissed and the ratings went down." I understand why. Nothing explodes, and Ahn's style was never built for a channel-surfing audience. But that is exactly the mood I'm recommending it for. Episode 4 is out on the 13th with the ring box scene from the new stills, and I'll be watching it slowly, the way it wants to be watched.

Night rotation plus a slow drama is a sleep timer with subtitles.

7quietkimchi2026.10.13

silence is cheap to film. making it feel like something is the hard part

7Haneul2026.10.14

quiet scenes are scary bc one bad edit and it's just a person staring at a wall 😭 but this one sounds like it knows what it's doing ✨

7nightbus_92026.10.13

something in the rain was the drama that made me miss my stop twice. adding this

Tea plus a slow drama, and I'd add a bowl of bingsu. That's a full evening.

missing your stop for a drama is a compliment the director can frame

7velvetcrow2026.10.13

2.1% after the kiss episode is so funny. the audience said 'too slow' and left

8TaehoOP2026.10.13

ENA numbers run low in general, to be fair. Extraordinary Attorney Woo also started under 1% there.

↳
7Geonwoo2026.10.13

2.1% just means the people left are the committed ones. Better fanbase than most 20% shows.

is it sad? i need to know before i commit, i cried at the last one for an hour

7Haneul2026.10.13

if it's tea and silences i'd bring a tissue anyway 🥹 slow dramas love to sneak up on you ✨

↳
7Soomin2026.10.13

The post makes it sound like a quiet ache rather than a sobbing one. Keep tissues near anyway.

7Dahye2026.10.13

tea and a slow drama is literally my weeknight plan, this sounds perfect 🍵

perfect until the tea goes cold and so do I

7Haneul2026.10.13

ok made tea, 20 mins in, nobody has said anything yet 😭 can't look away ✨

8Dabin2026.10.13

nobody talking for 20 mins is exactly my kind of show. want it on in the background while i do absolutely nothing

↳
7Gaeun2026.10.13

Twenty minutes with nobody talking is the correct pacing. Pour the tea slowly, it's part of the show.

↳
7Lumi_Haze2026.10.13

twenty minutes of nobody talking. i'd check if the tv was muted

6Fizzwick2026.10.13

a whole drama of people eating in a cafeteria and I'm already hungry lmao

7orbit_kid2026.10.13

Tried a slow one like this once. Asleep by episode two. Not the drama's fault, the tea was too good.

↳
7Gaeun2026.10.13

Asleep by episode two is a legit rating for this genre. Five stars, extra blanket.

6soju_sundays2026.10.13

Sounds lovely, but I'm on night rotation and a slow drama on Sunday night puts me out by minute 30. Great sleep aid, though.

7Geonwoo2026.10.13

Slow dramas are the farming sims of TV. Nothing happens, I'm twelve episodes in, and I'm calling it relaxing.

7Nari2026.10.13

The student cafeteria scene is what sold me. Cheap trays, nobody speaking, probably a better lunch than most staffrooms.

Maybe, but I think a quiet scene is easier to ruin than a loud one. One bad edit and it just feels empty instead of calm. Hoping episode 4 isn't that.
