๐Ÿ”ฅ๋Š™ํฌํฌ, the word for sounding old online

7DahyeAm2026.10.12 06:36๐Ÿ‘ 1041๐Ÿ’ฌ 11โ™ฅ 56

New one for me this week. ๋Š™ํฌํฌ (neul-keu-keu) is ๋Š™๋‹ค (to get old) plus ํฌํฌ, an older way of typing a laugh before everyone moved to ใ…‹ใ…‹ใ…‹. So it's a person, or a way of talking, that gives away your age, like using a word that peaked years ago and acting like it's still fresh. The example that made it click is from Lee Hyun-yi's YouTube video with five other models. She introduced them as "๋Œ€์„ธ ์ค‘์˜ ๋Œ€์„ธ", basically the hottest of the hot, and the younger ones jumped on it right away. One said he hadn't heard ๋Œ€์„ธ in ages, and Kim Jin-kyung just called her ๋Š™ํฌํฌ. Lee Hyun-yi asked what people say now instead, and nobody actually had an answer, which is my favorite part. It's been all over Korean news because Hangul Day this year marked 100 years, and outlets kept listing it next to other new words like ๋А์ข‹ (short for "good vibes") and ๋ฐคํ‹ฐ (something that looks kind of off). YTN even put it in a headline. Using it on yourself is cute. Calling a coworker that is a choice.

A year of 'ha ha' back at ํฌํฌ is diplomatic damage. Send one ํฌํฌ and she'll adopt you.

ใ…‹ใ…‹ vs ํฌํฌ is the real generational line. my mom still types ํฌํฌ

Every generation has a word like this. What I like is that this one is built out of a laugh rather than an age.

My mother-in-law's texts are all ํฌํฌ and I thought it was just her style. Apparently it's a whole category.

So it's 'cringe millennial' with one extra layer.

cringe millennial is more 'trying too hard'. ๋Š™ํฌํฌ is when you didn't notice the word already died. different crime lol

kkk at 21 is vintage, not old. ๋Š™ starts when you explain the joke after it lands

Mine too. I answered her ํฌํฌ with 'ha ha' for a year, so the problem was me.
