A Japanese visitor was stunned by a 9,000 won boribap set, and Koreans immediately checked the math

A Japanese visitor filmed a barley rice set at a small Korean restaurant, with the owner explaining every dish very earnestly, and at the end the caption goes "eh? this is 900 yen? unbelievable."

The tray is full. Lots of banchan, soup, rice. One top comment said it's the kind of meal where your stomach just feels calm after, and another said for 1,000 won more with a fried egg on top it'd be perfect. But of course the Korean comments went straight for the number: "9,000 won isn't 900 yen lol," and someone worked out that if 100 yen is about 850 won, it's over 1,000 yen. So the video is cute, but the conversion is generous. Still, around 1,000 yen for all of that is cheap if you ask me.

Video says 900 yen, comments say 1,000 yen, the owner says eat more. She wins

A meal that leaves my stomach calm is a luxury I can't afford

Seoul lunch prices are around there now, but a boribap tray with that many banchan is still a good deal. And the owner over-explaining every dish is the classic part

The 900 yen thing is very Japanese though. We drop a zero in our heads and move on

the post doesn't say, sadly

That many side dishes for 9,000 won. In my city that gets you a sad salad

dropping a zero is how I'd do it too, then the Korean comments show up with calculators

The owner explaining every dish so earnestly is the best part. That's real hospitality

Boribap mixed with a fried egg and gochujang is one of the best cheap meals in Korea. The egg comment is right

Little set meal places like this near offices are my favorite part of living in Seoul

5lol_true2026.10.07

lol true, the egg would make it perfect

9,000 won sets near offices are real, and yes the 1,000 yen math is generous. In my experience the banchan refill is free and the aunt will absolutely tell you to eat more
