🔥The ₩5,000 Olive Young bag every tourist carries is now reselling for double

7SebinAm2026.10.07 12:23👁 1942💬 21♥ 51

If you've walked around Myeongdong or Seongsu lately, you've seen it: the big reusable Olive Young shopping bag hanging off half the tourists' arms.

Korean news covered it this week. Olive Young says the tarpaulin bag (타포린백, the heavy waterproof material) launched in January last year and has sold about 2.27 million so far, more than 100,000 a month. It was made for tourist shopping and is only sold at around 150 stores where foreign visitors go, like Myeongdong and Seongsu. Musinsa's reusable bag from this April has passed 270,000 too. Limited editions are trading on secondhand apps for around twice the original price, and the article says people in Korea have started using them as everyday bags as well. I bought one on my last trip because my suitcase was full and the sheet masks needed somewhere to go. Now it's my market bag in Ankara and people actually ask where it's from. A shopping bag becoming a souvenir is funny, but it makes sense. It's cheap, it's useful, and it says "I went to Korea" better than a fridge magnet. Paying double for a limited one is where I get off, though I understand the people who do.

I have two. One for groceries, one for the gym. Zero regrets

Same idea, a reusable shopping bag with a big logo. Different design, people buy it for the same reason

is the Musinsa one the same type of bag?

6busan_or_bust2026.10.07

is it only at those tourist stores? I'm going in November

The souvenir economy: you pay to carry the logo home. Respect

the article says around 150 stores where foreign visitors go, so Myeongdong or Seongsu should be safe

Koreans use it too, it's just a good bag. Paying double for a shopping bag is where I check out though

Better than free advertising, people paid for it. That's an ad that pays you back

Best marketing spend ever, fans buy the kit the day it drops. Same as football

I see these at the arrivals gate in Saigon all the time, everyone coming back from Seoul

It's the only bag that fits 40 sheet masks and a cleansing balm without ripping

40 sheet masks is a normal amount and I won't hear otherwise

Revenue is looking tarp-ically strong

5retro_ballad2026.10.07

I bought mine as a souvenir and now it carries my gym stuff, my laundry and my regrets

7Geonwoo2026.10.07

₩5,000 bag that carries 40 sheet masks and my dignity. If it doubles in price, my laundry bag is an appreciating asset

7Dahye2026.10.08

Walked around the Seongsu cafes carrying one of these and it was basically a tourist badge. Didn't know it was an investment

6Mateo2026.10.08

Random fact: the bag is tarpaulin, the same stuff as truck covers and tents. That's why it survives suitcases and sheet masks
