Seocho ended a 300,000-person music festival with a cleaning parade, and people are calling the planner a genius

This one made me smile. The Seoripul Music Festival in Seocho-gu, Seoul, which drew about 300,000 people, ended with something called the 서리풀 청소 퍼레이드, the Seoripul cleaning parade.

After the festival, 112 people, including about 70 환경공무관 (sanitation workers) and local residents, cleaned up the space everyone had just left, and they did it as a parade, as the festival's finale. The idea was to put the sanitation workers in the spotlight as the hidden main characters of the event while they returned the street to normal. The TJB news clip's title quotes people saying "the planner is a real genius," and the Instiz post where I found it said "why do I tear up watching this," which is exactly how I felt. Small context: 환경공무관 is the newer official title some districts in Seoul use for street cleaners, a more respectful one than the old word. Usually the cleanup happens after everyone is gone and nobody sees it, so making it the finale is a nice change.

same reaction here honestly

Turning the cleanup into the finale is such a simple idea. The people who usually work unseen get the applause for once

Cynical Brit fully prepared to roll my eyes. Did not roll my eyes

Nice gesture, but did the workers get paid extra for the parade part? That's what I'd want to know

5Lucia2026.10.07

why am I crying at a cleaning parade at work

Give them the stage, the lights, everything. No festival runs without them

The report doesn't say. Fair question, I'd like to know too

Both can be true. It's a nice gesture and a fair question. Good PR and fair pay aren't opposites

Paid extra or not, the parade was the cheapest PR any district has ever done. Somebody got a promotion

5offside_oppa2026.10.07

It's the kit men getting a lap of honour after the final. Long overdue

7Nari2026.10.07

Busan's fireworks crowd could learn from this. The beach the next morning is something else

6Seoa2026.10.07

Japanese fans picking up trash after matches is common, but a parade is new to me. Lovely

Japanese stadium cleanups are fans doing it themselves though. This is staff getting a spotlight. Both nice, different thing

Cynical Brit not rolling eyes is the real headline here

5Tenzin2026.10.07

환경공무관 is a nice word to learn. Thank you for the context

↳
6hanbyeolOP2026.10.07

Glad it helped. The new title is a small thing but you notice older people still using the old word less and less

6ppalli_ppalli2026.10.07

saving 환경공무관 too. 환경 = environment, 공무관 sounds official. much nicer than the old word

A clean finish to the festival. Literally

6busan_or_bust2026.10.07

Is a parade like that open to watch, or only for people who stay to the very end? I'd love to catch one on my trip

Not sure if it's open to everyone. The clip in the post is on YouTube at least, so you can see how it looked

4Doha2026.10.07

300,000 people and the last thing on stage is the people who clean up after them. That's how you end a festival

6Zeynep2026.10.07

300,000 people went home and the cleaners got the encore. That's a flex

Not convinced yet. Lovely gesture, but I want it to be annual, not a one-off for the cameras. Both can be true

5offside_oppa2026.10.07

Team wins, trophy goes up, then the groundskeepers get the lap of honour. Good call

6busan_or_bust2026.10.08

Adding the Seoripul festival to my list for next year. Mostly for the parade, not going to lie
