🔥Moon Geun-young came back on TV and cried through a 16-year-old's song on 'Our Ballad 2'

5Fernanda_mAm2026.10.07 02:13👁 1431💬 41♥ 56

Moon Geun-young hasn't been on TV much in a long time, and she showed up on 우리들의 발라드 2 (Our Ballad 2). First episode, and she didn't care about looking composed at all. She just cried.

The reason is a contestant named Kim Soyeon, who is 16. Her father passed away last December, and she turned that into this performance in her own voice. According to the Korean post, people are sobbing in the comments and the song even entered the Melon chart. I'm usually a skincare-videos-at-midnight person, not an audition show person, but I watched this twice. A lot of these shows lean too hard on sad backstories, and maybe this one does too, but the voice holds up on its own. Do you watch audition shows for the voices or for the stories? Be honest.

is there a version with english subs?

6hanbyeol2026.10.07

She was a huge child actress here, so just seeing her back on a broadcast is a moment for a lot of Koreans

For the voices. The stories are how they keep you through the ads

7Haeun2026.10.07

Getting onto Melon from an audition show stage is not small. People really streamed it

7Sebin2026.10.07

Both. The story is why you click, the voice is why you stay

5Mariela2026.10.07

Watched it muted first and still teared up at her face. Then with sound and it was worse

Same. Her face before she even starts singing already tells you everything

6Jiyul2026.10.07

A 16 year old singing a ballad like that... ballads are back and I'm not ready

Ballads coming back through a 16 year old would be the best plot twist of this decade. I've been waiting since the 2000s OSTs

Voices. Stories are the producer's job, singing is hers. Annoyingly she did both

Moon Geun-young crying without caring about her image is exactly why people love her

Entering the chart is great but where did it peak? Entering and staying are very different stories

↳
7Haeun2026.10.08

For an audition show song that's still a lot. Most stage clips never touch the chart at all

6Lukas932026.10.07

Honest question, is it okay that shows build an episode around a teenager's grief? Feels a bit much to me

↳
5Fernanda_mOP2026.10.07

I had the same thought. She chose to sing about it though, so I'm trying to respect that

↳
7Sebin2026.10.07

I think it's okay if she chose it and the show doesn't keep replaying it every episode. The first time is her story, the fifth time is the show's

↳
5Fernanda_mOP2026.10.07

I went back and forth on this too. Watching it twice, it felt like her moment more than the show's. Next episodes will tell

4Nurul2026.10.07

I'm crying. I can't even look at the thumbnail

5Sanne2026.10.07

is there a version with english subs?

↳
5Sanne2026.10.07

also want this, the youtube auto subs mangle everything

7Minjae2026.10.07

For the voices. But with this one I can't separate them, and maybe that's okay

5Kasia2026.10.07

I don't watch audition shows at all and this is the second time this week someone has made me watch one. I lost both times

3lowkeylurker2026.10.07

lol same, watched it twice, cried twice

6Yoonseo2026.10.07

Vocab: 국민 여동생 (gungmin yeodongsaeng), "the nation's little sister." That's what Moon Geun-young was called for years

6devils_avocado2026.10.07

Devil's advocate: audition shows putting grief at the center of an episode isn't new. People just forgive it when the singer is this good

5Valen2026.10.07

I'm crying again. 16 years old and she sings like that

7Dahye2026.10.07

I watched it on my lunch break and had to stop because people around me were looking. Bad idea

5Lucia2026.10.07

I'm crying, I watched it twice like the post said and the second time was worse

7Nari2026.10.07

A friend in Busan sent me this with no message, just the link. I knew what I was in for and still wasn't ready

4Sølvi2026.10.07

what's the name of the song she sang?

↳
5Fernanda_mOP2026.10.08

The post didn't name it and I don't want to guess. It's her own song about her dad, the clip has the title on screen

8Taeho2026.10.07

Moon Geun-young was the nation's little sister for a whole generation of Korean TV, from Autumn in My Heart onward. Seeing her cry openly on a judge seat closes some kind of circle

↳
8Taeho2026.10.07

And Painter of the Wind, Mary Stayed Out All Night. People my age grew up with her on screen. Her crying feels like an old friend crying

5Aurelien2026.10.07

Judges crying on camera usually feels staged to me. Moon Geun-young's reaction doesn't. She looks like she forgot the camera was there

↳
7Sebin2026.10.07

I agree. Some judge reactions are for the camera. She looked like she just forgot it was there

4Doha2026.10.07

She got onto Melon at 16 with a song about her dad. I hope she gets a big career out of this, she deserves it

5Elena.v2026.10.07

I had to pause at the part where the camera cuts to Moon Geun-young. Two people crying for different reasons and you feel both

5Freja2026.10.07

One tear-jerker doesn't tell me much. I'd wait to see how the show handles it from episode to episode

6Priya.s2026.10.07

Variety addict here and Our Ballad 2 wasn't on my list. It is now. First episode and they already have the clip everyone shares

I started this with a snack and the snack is still sitting there untouched

5Ana.Lu2026.10.08

Watching with tissues next to me now like it's a melodrama finale. It's a first episode
