Korea went from short sleeves to padded jackets overnight, with the earliest cold wave advisory since 2005

Korea came back from the long holiday on October 6 and the weather said no. A ํ•œํŒŒํŠน๋ณด (cold wave advisory) went out for parts of Gangwon, and Hankook Ilbo says it's the earliest one anywhere in the country since 2005. Mornings are dropping to around 2ยฐC, but daytime highs are still 23 to 26ยฐC. A 20-degree swing in one day.

That's Gwanghwamun on the 6th (Newsis photo), everyone throwing a jacket over whatever they had on. Korean comments under it: "it's started... the ์ถ˜์ถ”์ „๊ตญ์‹œ๋Œ€ of clothes lol" (the Warring States period of outfits, everyone dressed for a different season at the same time) "short sleeves with a padded jacket" "I was walking to the gym in short sleeves and the ajumma in front of me was in a light padded jacket lol" When I lived in Incheon this was the week I never knew what to wear. Morning me dressed for winter, 2pm me regretted everything. Is it this chaotic where you live, or do you get a proper autumn?

Busan is milder but the morning to afternoon swing is real. I carry a jacket I wear for exactly 40 minutes a day

6velvetrabbitOP2026.10.06

40 minutes a day is so accurate

And ํ™˜์ ˆ๊ธฐ (hwanjeolgi), the season-change period. Every Korean mom warns you about catching a cold during it

the light padded jacket ajumma is always right btw. she's dressed for 7am, you're dressed for 2pm

Norway skipped autumn years ago. You get one nice week and then it's dark at 4pm

์ผ๊ต์ฐจ (ilgyocha) = the gap between the day's high and low. You'll hear it in every Korean weather report this month

she's dressed for 7am and I'm dressed for regret

Osaka is still hot in the afternoons. I respect the ajumma deeply though

Me in a hoodie in every season, unbothered, slightly sweaty

Gwanghwamun in that photo looks like three seasons sharing one crosswalk. Autumn in Seoul lasts about a week and I love that week

Every year I swear I'll pack away summer clothes slowly, and every year Korea skips straight to winter

Random fact: the earliest ํ•œํŒŒํŠน๋ณด since 2005 from the post. So this isn't just everyone being dramatic, it really is unusually early

I'm crying at the gym in short sleeves next to the ajumma in a padded jacket. Both of them are right in their own way

The ์ถ˜์ถ”์ „๊ตญ์‹œ๋Œ€ comment is perfect. On days like this you can see every season in one subway car

Short sleeves plus a padded jacket is the most honest outfit. It says "I don't know either"

Dressing for kickoff and full time at once. Sleeves for 2pm, padded jacket for 7am, scarf in the bag as a substitute.
