🔥A foreign customer left this on their plate at a Korean restaurant

7DahyeAm2026.10.05 20:34👁 1399💬 43♥ 62

Saw this on Instiz tonight and it made me smile. The post just says a foreign customer left their plate like this.

They used the leftover strips (looks like fish cake to me) to spell out 맛있어, "it was delicious." The spelling is a little creative, but the message got through. All I've ever left behind is an empty plate and a shy 감사합니다 on the way out. Have you ever done something like this for a restaurant, or are you the bow-and-leave type too?

They couldn't write a review in Korean so they built one out of food. The owner is keeping that photo forever

맛있어 is the casual one, 맛있어요 is polite. To an owner you'd usually add 요, but with fish cake you use what fits on the plate

I'd print it and put it next to the menu. Best review that place will ever get

6busan_or_bust2026.10.05

Saving this for my trip. 맛있어요 was already on my list of words, didn't know it came with a craft project

what's the creative part of the spelling? I can't read it well from the photo

Korean here. The spelling isn't perfect but it's better than my handwriting after soju. Any owner would screenshot this

the fish cake font is elite

someone please make the fish cake font a real font

↳
5Layla2026.10.07

Fish cake font, 72pt, bold. Someone sell it

6busan_or_bust2026.10.05

Added to my trip list: eat everything, then spell 맛있어 with the leftovers

6ppalli_ppalli2026.10.06

The creative spelling makes it better. A perfect 맛있어 would look like a sign, this looks like a person

6kkt.882026.10.06

Agree. Looks handmade, so it means more. Owners can tell

5dadjoke_dk2026.10.06

My wife and I tried this once with spaghetti. It said "good" and also accidentally "god". The waiter blessed us

↳
5kimbap_kid2026.10.07

Spaghetti 'god' is the funniest accidental review ever

5Noor2026.10.06

I'm the bow-and-leave type and now I feel like I've been doing it wrong this whole time

5lyric.thief2026.10.06

"Thank you for the music" but it's fish cake on a plate

5moonchild_2026.10.06

imagine the owner clearing tables at closing time and finding this. that's a good day at work

6ice_cold_takes2026.10.06

Bow and leave is valid. Spelling on the plate is just showing off. Good showing off

5Lucia2026.10.06

they built a review out of fish cake... I'm crying, this is the most wholesome thing on the internet today

6Zeynep2026.10.06

The letters are even lined up pretty neatly. Someone took their time with this

6Lukas932026.10.07

Did the owner confirm it was a foreign customer or was that a guess from the spelling? Either way cute

↳
7DahyeOP2026.10.07

The post just says a foreign customer, no quote from the owner. So I'm taking their word for it

4Elif2026.10.07

7DahyeOP2026.10.07

I can't make out every letter either, the strips bend a bit. Readable as 맛있어 but very clearly handmade

6hanbyeol2026.10.07

Owners in Korea really do get emotional over stuff like this. A plate like that ends up on the wall more often than you'd think

5Gyuwon2026.10.07

Best restaurant review I've seen, and it has no stars

7Siwoo2026.10.07

In Norway we leave the plate clean and the restaurant knows we're happy. Silent review *grabs popcorn*

5nunchi_zero2026.10.07

I can't even make eye contact when I say 감사합니다. This person spelled it on a plate. Different level of courage

5Ana.Lu2026.10.07

I left a thank you note on a napkin once in Mexico City. This is the upgraded version

5Ayşe2026.10.07

This made my night. Simple and kind

5Elena.v2026.10.07

The creative spelling is what makes it emotional. You can tell they really tried

6Jaehee2026.10.07

My plate message would say "I'm sorry I couldn't finish". In rice

↳
7Minjae2026.10.07

Spelling 'sorry' in leftover rice would make the owner feel worse though lol

7Soomin2026.10.07

As a food person this is the highest compliment. Food turned into a thank you note

6pixel_gremlin2026.10.07

Achievement unlocked: wrote Korean with food. Bonus points for using the side dish as ink

5Ignacia2026.10.07

A fish-cake review. They really took it with a grain of soy

↳
5tteok_and_roll2026.10.07

'Grain of soy' is going in my pun hall of fame

7Nari2026.10.07

Busan aunties at my local place would frame this. And then tell every customer for a year

6Dain2026.10.07

I've seen latte art thank-yous, but fish cake calligraphy is a whole new genre

6Yoonseo2026.10.07

Vocab: 잘 먹었습니다 (jal meogeotseumnida) is what you say on the way out, "I ate well." Maybe the next customer can spell that one, it's long though

6Jiyul2026.10.07

This is better than any five star review. It looks like someone wanted to say thanks and didn't have the words yet

5Valen2026.10.07

I'm crying, fish cake is the new love language

7Minjae2026.10.07

This is so wholesome. One plate and now the whole internet knows about that restaurant
