🔥🌶 Hot debateA Korean YouTuber's list of beauty and fashion items that went 'extinct' in Korea, starting with high heels

7GaeunAm2026.10.05 14:12👁 2150💬 50♥ 53

Korean YouTuber 회사원A (Company Employee A) made a video about items she thinks have gone extinct in Korean beauty and fashion lately, and an Instiz post with her captures got a lot of discussion today. Item number one: high heels. She says she realized she hasn't worn them at all in the last two or three years.

What I liked was the comments, because people didn't fully agree that things got easier. One person said the watercolor-style makeup is in fashion now, but the skin base underneath is actually thick and a lot of work, and with all the layering in outfits now it feels like more effort than before, even if bras and shoes got comfier. Another said the old red lip was easier, you could just swipe it on without being careful. One more said the 2000s were simpler: skinny jeans or bootcut, heels, done. And someone pointed out that people who are still obsessed with looks just switched to Douyin-style makeup. Honestly I agree with them. When I lived in Daegu I saw so many sneakers and flat loafers, but nobody looked like they "didn't try." The effort just moved to the skin and the styling. Is it the same where you live? In Paris, heels are mostly for evenings now. And is "natural" makeup really less work, or does it only look that way?

The clack clack on an office floor was a whole personality. Sneakers can't do that

5Ana.Lu2026.10.07

The flats in the bag thing is universal. Same in Santiago apparently, my friend says the metro is where heels go to die

7GaeunOP2026.10.06

And the "thick base under the watercolor" comment is the part nobody admits out loud

6hazel_n_honey2026.10.07

Can't prove you wrong. My "no makeup" makeup has a primer, a cushion and a setting spray

5Noor2026.10.07

Skinny jeans or bootcut, heels, done. The 2000s really had a two-option menu and we were happy

5Fernanda_m2026.10.05

The 'watercolor makeup is secretly more work' comment is so true. Five thin layers of tint so it looks like you did nothing. A red lip was one swipe and a prayer. I kind of miss the prayer

lol true, a red lip is one decision. tint is a lifestyle

↳
5Fernanda_m2026.10.06

The red lip did not forgive eating. Nothing forgives eating

↳
5Kasia2026.10.06

the prayer was mostly "please don't be on my teeth"

↳
7GaeunOP2026.10.06

"One swipe and a prayer" I'm stealing that. The red lip era had so much confidence

↳
6hazel_n_honey2026.10.06

Same. Watercolor looks need a perfect base or they go patchy in two hours. The red lip forgave everything except eating

In Brussels a red lip still reads as "I'm going somewhere". Natural makeup reads as "I woke up like this" even when it took 40 minutes

7GaeunOP2026.10.06

And the "thick base under the watercolor" comment is the part nobody admits out loud

↳
6Zeynep2026.10.06

And thin layers of tint mean checking a mirror every hour. The red lip was one commitment in the morning and done

5Sanne2026.10.06

What else was on her list besides heels?

↳
6hanbyeol2026.10.07

In the captures I could only see heels clearly. Her video goes through the rest, worth a watch if you understand some Korean

5Mariela2026.10.06

I miss heels a little. Not the pain, the sound. Walking into a room and announcing yourself

↳
5Mariela2026.10.07

The clack clack on an office floor was a whole personality. Sneakers can't do that

5Ana.Lu2026.10.06

Mexico City office girls still do heels a lot, but everyone has flats in the bag for the metro

↳

The flats in the bag thing is universal. Same in Santiago apparently, my friend says the metro is where heels go to die

7Nari2026.10.06

Busan is the same. I mostly see heels at weddings now, loafers everywhere else

I stopped wearing heels and thought I was being lazy. Turns out I was trendy. Personal win

7Sebin2026.10.06

Both are true: less pain, more steps. Comfort won on the body, effort won on the face

6kkt.882026.10.06

Office worker in Seoul here. Heels left, but the effortless look takes exactly as much effort. We just pretend better

5nunchi_zero2026.10.06

I tried watercolor makeup once and a coworker asked if I was feeling okay

5Aino2026.10.06

Finland never had a heels era. Snow made that decision for us

↳
5aaaahelsinki2026.10.07

*screams in Helsinki slush* snow made the decision, correct

6Yoonseo2026.10.06

Vocab: 꾸안꾸 (kku-an-kku) = dressed up but looks like you didn't try. That's this whole thread in one word

6Lukas932026.10.06

The Douyin makeup comment is the real point. Effort never went extinct, the style just changed countries

6Seoa2026.10.06

In Osaka I still see more heels than in Seoul, mostly office workers. But sneakers to work is way more normal than five years ago

7Dahye2026.10.06

Seoul office people in sneakers is so real, but everyone's sneakers are spotless. The effort just moved to how white your shoes are

↳
7Dahye2026.10.07

Spotless white sneakers are the new heels in Seoul. Same suffering, different body part

5tiny.tigress2026.10.06

"Natural" makeup is the biggest scam in beauty. Prove me wrong

↳
5Jules2026.10.06

Not a scam, just a very expensive magic trick. The audience isn't supposed to see the 7 products

↳
6hazel_n_honey2026.10.07

Can't prove you wrong. My "no makeup" makeup has a primer, a cushion and a setting spray

Seongsu cafe crowd agrees. Nobody in heels, everybody in four layers and a bag that costs more than my rent

6Hajun2026.10.06

The effort moved from your feet to your face to your whole wardrobe. Progress, I suppose

4Eero2026.10.06

Why did the high heel retire? It was tired of being looked down on

↳
5Fernanda_m2026.10.07

Booing, but 'tired of being looked down on' is annoyingly clever

6Dain2026.10.06

In Saigon heels are still around for events but motorbikes made flats the normal choice years ago

6kkt.882026.10.07

Douyin makeup is more of a younger people thing here. Some in my office do a lighter version for weekends

6Zeynep2026.10.07

Loafers in Daegu tracks. When I visited, the most dressed-up people were in flats and very serious coats

5Noor2026.10.07

Skinny jeans or bootcut, heels, done. The 2000s really had a two-option menu and we were happy

5Elena.v2026.10.07

The day I stopped wearing heels was the day I started enjoying parties

5Camila2026.10.07

Heels walked out of Korea so sneakers could run it

4Hiro_K2026.10.07

Japan's version is similar. The natural look took over magazines here too, and the base products got more complicated, not simpler

6Jaehee2026.10.07

I own one pair of heels and they're from a wedding in 2019. They live in a box now, like a museum piece

5Chiara2026.10.07

I love that the comments didn't just agree. "Comfier shoes, harder face" is such a fair summary

5Tenzin2026.10.07

Interesting that 회사원A is the name. "Company Employee A" sounds like a background character in a drama, which is kind of the point I guess

4Kyungmin2026.10.07

is douyin makeup a big thing in korea now?

↳
7GaeunOP2026.10.07

From the comments it's more of a younger people thing. One person called it where the looks-obsessed crowd moved to

6meh_espresso2026.10.07

Heels went extinct, but nobody told the wedding dress code

5lol_true2026.10.07

lol true, effort didn't go extinct, it just changed jobs
