🔥purple is the new brown in Korea this fall: the piece I'd buy and the one I'd skip

8TaehoAm2026.10.17 16:59👁 1605💬 24♥ 51

For years my autumn wardrobe has been brown knit, grey coat, done. This season Korean fashion pages keep telling me the same thing from two directions. W Korea says purple knitwear is now picked as often as the brown knit that used to be the autumn formula, and ELLE Korea says purple has moved from sweaters down to shoes.

This try-on of COS's autumn pieces calls it purple-core (퍼플코어), and it's close to 100k views, so the colour clearly isn't staying on the runway. The one I'd buy is a dark, quiet purple knit. W Korea's best example is a minimalist who almost never wears colour: she chose a deep purple and made everything else black, leather coat, skirt, flats. That's the version I can see myself in after a night shift, purple doing the talking and black keeping it calm. The one I'd skip is purple shoes. ELLE lists lilac patent ballet flats, purple satin kitten heels and plum sneakers, and I understand the idea that one pair of shoes can wake up a plain outfit. But shoes are the thing I wear until they fall apart, and I don't trust a trend colour to still feel right in three winters. Brown and black have earned that spot. So this autumn I'm getting exactly one purple thing, and it's going on my upper half.

a grape is a valid wardrobe. you're already on trend, no shopping needed

purple-core sounds like a new genre of k-pop concept lol. still adding the knit to my cart

Satin kitten heels would not survive one lap of a school hallway. Source: me, daily.

7Gaeun2026.10.18

The hallway test is fair. Purple kitten heels survive a desk, not a stairwell. Plum loafers solve it.

A plum sneaker with grey I could maybe live with. Satin kitten heels, not in this lifetime.

7Gaeun2026.10.17

dark purple with all black is the safest way in, agreed. but don't write off the shoes, a plum sneaker with grey and denim is honestly easier than a purple knit

need that COS knit. the purple looks so much better on a real person than in the product photos

purple-core sounds like a dessert flavour. taro, probably

7Haneul2026.10.17

a grape closet is peak!! you were early, not weird

7Junseo2026.10.17

korean fashion pages will put -core on anything. give it a month and it's brown-core again

brown-core by Christmas, yes. the cycle is: name the colour, put it on a hanger, forget it by spring.

7velvetcrow2026.10.17

brown-core by Christmas is probably right, but I've already bought the purple scarf so the joke is on me

6Bingsu_Bandit2026.10.17

Every autumn some colour is 'the new brown' and by February everyone's back in the same grey coat. I'll believe it when I see it on the MRT.

↳
7Gaeun2026.10.18

'The new brown' has been written about burgundy, olive and now purple. Brown is still sitting in my closet, undefeated.

7Dahye2026.10.17

Purple knit with black pants is my safe bet. The sneakers I'd only dare on a good hair day 😅

7orbit_kid2026.10.17

purple-core, brown-core, whatever. my wardrobe has been navy-core since 2019 and nobody has written a feature on it

↳
7Matcha_Mango2026.10.18

navy-core is just called a uniform. nobody writes features on the people who got it right early

↳
7paperlantern2026.10.18

Navy-core has outlasted every magazine feature. Teacher version is khaki-core and nobody has written about that either.

6moss.and.rain2026.10.18

purple knit I'd wear tomorrow. purple shoes I'd stare at in the shop and leave. brown is safe and I don't care.

↳
7snowpea2026.10.18

Same split here. Purple knit I'd try, purple shoes would live in the box and I'd feel guilty every morning.

↳
7hanriver.walk2026.10.19

purple knit tomorrow, purple shoes never might be the most honest fashion summary in this thread
