why yogurt chapssaltteok keeps selling out in Korea

7DahyeAm2026.10.17 16:54๐Ÿ‘ 1503๐Ÿ’ฌ 16โ™ฅ 44

Okay I need to talk about yogurt chapssaltteok because the texture lives in my head rent free. The outside is that classic chapssaltteok skin, soft and chewy, it stretches a little when you pull it apart and leaves starch dust on your fingers. Then you bite through and it's cold yogurt cream, more tangy than sweet, with fruit in the middle so you get a juicy pop right while you're still chewing. Chewy, creamy, fresh, in that order. It's lighter than it looks, which is dangerous because you tell yourself one is enough. The name everyone throws around is Hanjeongseon, the Seongsu shop known for its lines. At the busy branches you book a spot in the queue on an app just to be allowed to stand in the queue. GS25 teamed up with them and the convenience store version passed 700,000 sold in about a month, and now there's a pistachio one limited to 20,000.

That launch day line at a convenience store is so Korea ๐Ÿ˜‚ As a cafe hopper I fully get it. Pistachio first if I make it back to Seoul this winter, yogurt second, and a spare one for the subway ride home.

Funny that it's tteok of all things. Not long ago rice cake was seen as something for older customers at the neighborhood tteok shop, now it's the hype dessert young people line up for

Greek yogurt and mochi skins is the most home-cook thing I've heard today. I'd try it and still queue for the real one.

the app queue is real, you get a number and still show up early to be safe. nobody trusts the app fully

7Nari2026.10.17

Beats standing there an hour not knowing if they'll sell out before you get to the front. You learn to love the app

Booking a spot in an app to stand in a line for a rice cake is the kind of hype I let other people test first. Someone report back on whether the cream is actually tangy.

Yogurt in chapssaltteok makes so much sense, the tang cuts the sweet rice cake. At home you can fake it with frozen mochi skins and thick Greek yogurt. Not the same chew but close

pistachio version limited to 20k. that is going to vanish in minutes

Booking a place in a queue on an app so you can then stand in the queue. Peak Seoul

A launch line at a convenience store for a limited rice cake is the most Korean sentence I've read. I'll stand for pistachio, not for yogurt.

Rice cake having its main character era is great. I just need the yogurt one to still exist when I land.

Report back from the queue, I'll wait. My in-laws would stand in line for an hour and call it exercise

7Gaeun2026.10.17

The tang cutting through the chewy skin is a smart pairing. Same logic as cheesecake: the sour is what stops the sweet feeling heavy.

7Soomin2026.10.17

Whatever fruit sits in the middle matters most here. I'd go tart over sweet to keep up with the yogurt

6moss.and.rain2026.10.17

sounds nice but I don't trust anything that needs an app to buy. does it survive the walk home or is it an eat-on-the-spot thing?
