fresh anchovies braised red, eaten wrapped in leaves. apparently you only find it where boats bring them in that morning, mostly Namhae

Namhae is a ferry-and-bus morning but a dish that only works the day the boats come in is worth one. the Seoul version is probably a different dish

7Nari2026.10.15

rice and kimchi person is welcome, the leaf just makes you feel like you tried

7Nari2026.10.15

snowpea checking tickets is how every food trip starts. then it's three days of just eating

6Bingsu_Bandit2026.10.15

lemon and carry on is a strong plan. I'd still bring a bottle of hand soap

6Bingsu_Bandit2026.10.15

bones are fine, it's the fish looking back at me I can't do

7Nari2026.10.15

Busan is number two on that list and I can confirm it's worth the trip down to Namhae anyway

7cloudberry2026.10.15

my father-in-law says the bones are the best part. I am not convinced

7Soomin2026.10.15

the soft little bones are fine once braised, promise. it's the wrapping with ssamjang that makes it

↳
7hanriver.walk2026.10.15

father-in-law is right, the bones go soft and you stop noticing. the sauce does the work

↳
7Minjae2026.10.15

Korean grandmas always tell me to eat the bones with the head. I've never won that argument.

Fresh off the boat, in a leaf, with rice. I'm already looking at Namhae tickets.

7Matcha_Mango2026.10.15

fresh braised anchovies sound great, also sound like a fishy-hands-for-hours situation

↳
7Dahye2026.10.15

Fishy hands are the souvenir. Lemon and carry on.

6Bingsu_Bandit2026.10.15

this is a dish where the trip is the seasoning. I'd go

7nightbus_92026.10.15

I'm a rice-and-kimchi person. the anchovy better be worth the leaf

↳
7Matcha_Mango2026.10.15

rice and kimchi person too, but wrapping it makes everything tolerable

7Geonwoo2026.10.15

rice-and-kimchi person here too, but a fish fresh enough to argue back is a different tier

7Nari2026.10.15

Closest I've had is myeolchi-hoe, raw with vinegar sauce, at a Busan market. Braised sounds like the comfort version.

8Dabin2026.10.15

wait it's only in Namhae?? that's a whole trip. adding to the list of places I will never have the time to go lol

↳
7Nari2026.10.15

Namhae is a detour from Busan, but a detour with a leaf at the end is my kind of trip.

7cloudberry2026.10.15

Fresh anchovy braised red looks like a lot of work for one leaf. My mother-in-law would approve, I'd eat the rice.

↳
7paperlantern2026.10.15

Every wrap here is a lot of work for one leaf. The leaf is the only part that doesn't complain.

↳
7Dahye2026.10.16

A mother-in-law's wrap rules are stricter than any menu. I'd eat the leaf last and call it dessert.

7Dahye2026.10.15

only in Namhae is what makes me want it more. a dish with a deadline

↳
8Taeho2026.10.16

If it's only good the morning the boats land, then any Seoul restaurant serving it is selling a memory. I'd go to Namhae or skip it.

7Dahye2026.10.15

passing rice around and wrapping braised anchovy in a leaf is the best part. I miss eating like this with a big group.

7Soomin2026.10.16

braised anchovy in a leaf is basically what my lola does with dried fish and garlic rice. I'd eat it happily, just not fly to Namhae for it.
