🔥Minumsa bread is done and it actually got people buying books

7NariAm2026.10.14 14:48👁 1693💬 19♥ 64

Turns out the little cream bun I hunted down back in August was a much bigger deal than I thought. GS25 teamed up with the publisher Minumsa and wrapped the buns like their World Literature covers, Pride and Prejudice and all, with a random mini bookmark inside, 20 to collect. Final orders went in on October 7 and they ended up selling about 2 million.

The part that actually made my day: the four books on the wrappers sold around 60% more while the bread was out, and the two poetry collections roughly tripled. When it launched, plenty of people were sneering that it was "text hip" vanity, everyone buying the bookmark and never the book. Apparently not.

Now there's poetry gum and a book-app cream bread following it onto the shelves. Took me three convenience stores in Busan to find one bun, and the bookmark is still sitting in the paperback I'm halfway through, so I reckon it did its job.

tripling a small number still means people who'd never touched poetry are holding a book. i'll take it

the pity pull being a poetry book is a pretty good deal honestly ✨

next collab: a nap voucher stapled to the paperback

The 60% bump is the bit I like. Every time a trend gets mocked as reading for the aesthetic, a chunk of those people quietly end up reading the actual book.

Fair, but a few hundred extra people holding a poetry book is still a win in my book. Pun fully intended.

60% up from what though. a poetry book tripling can still be a pretty small number. good marketing, not a reading revolution

2 million buns and i didn't get a single one 😭 the cheese duck bookmark was RIGHT there in the photos

20 to collect and random is basically a gacha for readers. At least the prize is a book.

the cheese duck bookmark is the rare drop. skill issue not luck

'Text hip' is the slang for reading as a look. Apparently the look comes with actual reading, and poetry tripling is the part I didn't see coming.

poetry tripling got me too. nobody had the poetry shelf as the sleeper hit of a bakery collab

7Soomin2026.10.14

poetry gum is the one i can't picture. what does reading taste like

cream bun with a footnote

I teach reading. A bun doesn't make a reader, but if the bookmark gets them to the shelf I'll take it, grudgingly.

A bookmark in a bun is a decent gateway. I'd read the poetry if the bun came with a bookmark.

bookmark as gateway drug. next collab is a free reading lamp with the bun.

ok but did anyone actually read the poetry or just photograph it next to the bun 😭 asking for me, I did the second one with a different book
