🔥booking 2 train seats for yourself, korean reaction is SO split

8DabinAm2026.10.14 13:50👁 1669💬 22♥ 73

ok so someone on a packed train paid for two seats so nobody sits next to them, told the person trying to sit there "i have someone coming", 20 min later it turns into a whole thing and staff get called and yep both seats paid for. korea is split, half says you paid it's yours, half says on a sold out train that's just not considerate. no bc i get it, i would LOVE a bubble on a long ride, but the fake friend is where you lose me. just say you bought it!!

Paid and allowed isn't quite the same as fine, though. On a full train somebody's standing next to an empty seat for two hours. That part I can't shrug off.

Standing next to an empty seat for two hours is the image that sticks. The ticket was valid, the optics weren't.

Newbie question: if the friend had been real and just late, would anyone care? Feels like the lie is the problem, not the seat.

7Kettlecorn2026.10.14

Sure, they paid. But sold out means somebody else couldn't go. That's not a fake-friend problem, it's a math problem.

7orbit_kid2026.10.14

i'd pay double too if it meant nobody eating dried squid next to me for two hours

7Nari2026.10.14

Paying for both is fine by me honestly. The 'my friend is coming' bit is the dodgy part, that's what turned it into a staff situation.

The 'someone is coming' line is the actual problem. Lying to a stranger to keep a seat you already paid for makes no sense.

7Geonwoo2026.10.14

hot take: they paid, the seat is theirs. nobody owes the train a stranger

Legally, sure. But on a sold-out train that second ticket is one somebody else needed to get home, which is why it stings for people.

'nobody owes the train a stranger' works both ways. the stranger didn't owe anyone a fake friend story either.

paid, fine. but 'my friend is coming' for 20 minutes is what made it a story. one honest sentence and nobody films this

Dried squid is a crime, agreed. It still doesn't explain the made-up friend. Just say you paid for the space and be done.

dried squid is a legit reason. two-seat plan has my vote, minus the story

7Haneul2026.10.14

ok but 'someone's coming' for 20 min on a packed train is a plot, not a seat. just say you paid and let people be mad at you honestly 😭

7Nari2026.10.14

Twenty minutes and the friend never turned up. Even the lie lacked follow-through.

7Minjae2026.10.14

I'd buy both seats on a long trip too. I just wouldn't pretend the second one had a person in it. One sentence would have fixed this.
