๐ฅpizza on rice cake made it to CU

Pizza seolgi has been the thing in Korea this fall: baekseolgi, the plain white steamed rice cake, used like a pizza base with toppings on top. People have been doing "tteok pilgrimages" (๋ก์ง์๋ก, a pun on the bakery pilgrimage idea) to rice cake shops for it, and SNS mentions reportedly went from under 100 in April to over 10,000 in September. Even Pizza Hut jumped in. Now CU has its own, but on jeolpyeon, the flat chewy rice cake, instead of seolgi. Tomato sauce, mozzarella, pepperoni, corn and olives, 3,800 won. My honest verdict before tasting it: the swap is clever, because seolgi is soft and crumbly and jeolpyeon actually has the chew a crust should have. Cold mozzarella from a convenience store fridge is the part I don't trust. It's the same move CU made last year with its Dubai chewy rice cake, which has sold about 2.8 million. I'd still try a rice cake shop version first.
