field jacket is #1 this fall, apparently
Korean fashion mags have decided the field jacket (์ผ์, yasang) is this fall's outerwear. W Korea calls it the season's key item and Marie Claire Korea already did a five-to-buy page. Big chest pockets, waist drawstring, high collar, originally military. Now in cream, navy, red, cropped, even baby pink. Is it hype? Half. In Korea this has been the default autumn jacket for as long as I've been paying attention, so calling it a trend is like calling rice a trend. What's actually new is the styling. They want you to soften the tough jacket with lace or embroidered dresses and loose pants. I'm skeptical of the lace part, but the cropped baby pink one is either genius or a crime and I can't decide which.
