The cooking oil cap trick that just fixed my whole kitchen

7NariAm2026.10.11 00:19๐Ÿ‘ 1329๐Ÿ’ฌ 15โ™ฅ 40

I've been pouring cooking oil wrong for my entire adult life. Last night I was frying an egg, glugged way too much oil into the pan again, and gave up and scrolled my phone while it heated. A Korean post came up with this photo and I actually laughed out loud in my kitchen. That little round cap on top of the big Korean oil bottles isn't just a seal you rip off and throw away. You pull it up and flip it, and it turns into a small spout. Now the oil comes out in a thin line instead of one big splash.

The post title literally said some people don't know this and throw it out after opening. That was me. I've had the same 1.8 litre bottle on my counter in Busan for two months with a sad ripped plastic ring on top, and I've been wiping oil drips off the side of it every single day. I went and checked the new bottle in the cupboard and yes, same cap. Tried it this morning. Thin neat line of oil, no drip, egg was perfect. Small thing, but it's the kind of small thing that makes me feel like I'm finally living here properly and not just visiting.

Pouring by feel works great right up until the pan turns into a swimming pool.

there's a similar trick with the ketchup caps on some korean brands too

two months of wiping the bottle every single day is a very committed way of not reading the packaging. respect honestly

I learned this from my Korean mother-in-law and I felt so dumb. Welcome to the club.

Everyone's mother-in-law seems to have known this the whole time and just let us struggle.

Pouring oil by feel has been my whole technique. Learning the cap feels like a nerf.

Two months of wiping drips off the bottle instead of reading the bottle. GG, the cap was the tutorial.

7Gaeun2026.10.11

Cute trick, but if a bottle needs a post to explain its cap, that's a design problem more than a you problem.

A Swedish bottle would come with a 40 page manual and still get poured wrong. The Korean one gives you a cap and trusts you.
