AI hanbok vs the real thing (I'm not fully on the real thing's side)
Two hanbok moments went around this week and they're basically opposites. First, an AI "photoshoot" of BLACKPINK in hanbok from an AI art account. Pink and green everywhere, giant peonies, heavy embroidery, Jisoo under a gat covered in flowers, Lisa in a pink hood shaped like a bell.

Second, NMIXX's Sullyoon performing in an actual hanbok. Pale blue skirt, sheer white jeogori, a long tassel, hair in a loose braid. Nothing extra.

Korean comments on the AI set were split. Plenty of people said some of it doesn't read as hanbok at all, more like a Korea-China-Japan mix, and that the eye expressions are strange. Others pushed back: why does a hanbok concept always have to be plain and modest, the colors feel like fun 90s hanbok. Sullyoon's comments were ten lines of people calling her a celestial fairy. Everyone will say the real one wins, and on looks it does. But I'll defend the AI set on one point. The pink and green pairing and the dense flower embroidery are things a real designer could take straight to a stage. The faces are the problem, not the clothes. If a brand made Jisoo's flower gat for real, I'd want to see it on an actual stage.
