the ladle trick that keeps guksu hot

6meh_espressoAm2026.10.09 13:11👁 1089💬 9♥ 41

If your noodle soup always goes lukewarm: put the cooked noodles in the bowl, ladle boiling broth over them, tilt the bowl and pour it back into the pot, repeat 2–3 times, then fill the bowl for real. It's called 토렴 (toryeom) and it heats the noodles and the bowl at the same time. Bonus: the radish left over from making stock can be sliced, dipped in a batter of stock and flour, and pan-fried, and the flavor comes right back. Two tricks, zero extra shopping, my favorite kind of cooking.

if you don't want to do the pour-back, rinsing the bowl with hot water first gets you about half the effect. toryeom just does both jobs at once

do the bowl too, that's the part people skip. a cold bowl kills noodles faster than the broth does

yes, they do it with rice too. watching an ajumma do it at full speed is a whole show

vocab: 국수 (guksu) is noodles, 국밥 (gukbap) is soup with rice, and 토렴 is the move both of them depend on. saving this for winter

the cold bowl is the villain nobody talks about. lukewarm noodles on a Sunday and I'm in a drama arc. m crying

isn't toryeom how old gukbap places keep it piping hot? never thought of doing it at home with one ladle
