it's ํ•œ๊ธ€๋‚  today, and this year marks 100 years since the day was first set up. my favorite greeting this morning had the words shuffled on purpose, ํ–‰๋ณตํ•œ ๋˜์„ธ์š” ํ•˜๋ฃจ (happy have a day), and you still get it instantly. korean word order is way more forgiving than textbooks make it look.

so happy hangul day to the king who gave us an alphabet you can learn over a weekend.

Happy Hangul Day. The king made it learnable in a weekend and I still order by pointing, so he did his part, I didn't.

small context: it started as ๊ฐ€๊ฐธ๋‚  in 1926 and got the name ํ•œ๊ธ€๋‚  a couple of years later. so yes, 100 years ๐Ÿ‘

ordering by pointing is a valid language, I've spoken it in three countries

ํ–‰๋ณตํ•œ ๋˜์„ธ์š” ํ•˜๋ฃจ sounds like Yoda wrote the greeting card. Korean just lets everyone talk like that.

alphabet in a weekend is believable. the offside rule is still taking me a lifetime

the particles do the heavy lifting so you can shuffle a lot. ํ•˜๋ฃจ ๋˜์„ธ์š” ํ–‰๋ณตํ•œ still broke my brain a little though

Learned hangul in a weekend, then spent three years sounding out menus I still couldn't understand. Reading it out loud like a confident toddler is a lifestyle.

Letters in a weekend, sure. Knowing where the spaces go took me another year and I'm still not confident.

learned hangul in a weekend, then spent three years reading ใ…‹ใ…‹ใ…‹ and ใ…‡ใ…ˆ in PC bang chat. 100 years of alphabet and we used it for gg

ใ…‹ใ…‹ใ…‹ is a work of art, I'm crying. one king, 100 years, and the biggest hit is laughing

I learned hangul to read cafe menus. 100 years later it's still mostly ๋ผ๋–ผ and ์ผ€์ดํฌ for me โ˜•๐Ÿฐ
