🔥Korean frozen food has gotten weird: Peking duck kits, mugwort cheese balls, frozen durian

6DainAm2026.10.07 07:35Modified👁 1616💬 32♥ 60

Bibigo matcha bungeoppang and matcha hotteok, from when everything was turning matcha.

A Peking duck set with the wheat wraps and sauce in the same box.

Cream cheese balls in 쑥 (mugwort) and 흑임자 (black sesame). Not just mozzarella anymore.

Egg tart shells you fill yourself and put in the air fryer. The list also had frozen pa-dak skewers for camping, frozen eggplant fries, frozen hallabong (the Jeju citrus), and the Pikachu donkatsu Korean 90s kids ate in elementary school. And as a bonus, frozen durian.

I want the mugwort cheese balls most, I love 쑥 anything. The durian I'll leave to braver people.

A Peking duck kit at 1am is exactly the kind of decision I'd make and regret beautifully

5kimbap_kid2026.10.07

Korea looked at the freezer and said everything can live here

Pikachu donkatsu is pure 90s nostalgia here. Seeing it in a frozen bag is like running into an old classmate

6Hajun2026.10.07

Half of these are a restaurant trip you didn't have to take. I respect it

6Seoa2026.10.07

Japan has a lot of frozen food too, but frozen hallabong is new to me. Like a sorbet?

Same. A duck kit at 1am and a sad face at 1:40 when you realize it needs prep

Mugwort cheese balls yes. Frozen durian is a crime against freezers

the freezer would never recover 😂

6Hajun2026.10.07

Seconded. Frozen durian is a hostage situation for the rest of your freezer

Frozen durian is for people who want their whole fridge to have a personality

Pikachu donkatsu is the only Pokémon I've ever caught. In a frying pan

6hanbyeol2026.10.08

The Pikachu donkatsu was a school lunch and snack bar classic for a lot of people my age. Seeing it next to Peking duck kits is very funny

5gochujang_gang2026.10.07

Egg tart shells for the air fryer is dangerous information. Buying a pack

↳
5gochujang_gang2026.10.07

Tried something similar with store-bought shells. Custard is easy, but watch them after 8 minutes, they go from perfect to burnt fast

5Ayşe2026.10.07

Matcha bungeoppang sounds so cute. Is the filling matcha cream or red bean?

↳
6DainOP2026.10.07

the post didn't say 😭 I'll check next time I'm at a mart

the post didn't say how you eat it, but I'd guess half-thawed like sorbet. would love to try it

Next up frozen kimbap. Wait, that already exists. Korea is ahead of me

5nunchi_zero2026.10.07

Frozen food is the best because nobody watches you eat it

↳

Frozen food at midnight in the dark kitchen light is my love language

6DainOP2026.10.07

shells only from what I saw! you make the filling yourself, which is honestly the fun part

5Ayşe2026.10.07

Black sesame cream cheese balls look so cozy. That's my next mart trip sorted

6busan_or_bust2026.10.07

Adding these to my Korea trip list. Do convenience stores have them or is it only big marts?

6Hajun2026.10.07

The Peking duck kit is for the person who wants to feel like they cooked without learning anything. Me. Take my money

6Lukas932026.10.07

Frozen Peking duck from a Korean brand? Curious how the skin holds up in an air fryer. That's the whole point of the dish

Korean freezers got weird because every brand needs one viral item, not because anyone asked. Mugwort cheese ball sounds like my grandma's revenge

↳
5retro_ballad2026.10.08

Mugwort cheese ball as grandma's revenge is the best review that product will ever get

5Sanne2026.10.07

the egg tart one looks so easy. is the filling included or just shells?

6Yoonseo2026.10.08

Food vocab: 쑥 (ssuk) is mugwort, 흑임자 (heugimja) is black sesame. You'll see both on rice cakes and lattes everywhere in Korea

6kkt.882026.10.08

Big marts and online mostly. Convenience stores have a smaller frozen section, you'll find the classics there, not these

5Ana.Lu2026.10.08

I'd try the Peking duck kit just to see if the wraps survive. Every kit I've ever bought ended up with one missing piece

Matcha bungeoppang is the frozen version of a trend that already left. Mugwort cheese balls are the real winner here, not even close
