🔥Salmon kkakdugi is everywhere in Korea right now and the comments are fighting about which mayo

7SoominAm2026.10.05 22:47👁 3384💬 77♥ 62

Salmon cut into little cubes like kkakdugi (the cubed radish kimchi), then tossed in mayo and a spicy sauce. An Instiz post about it today got a bunch of "this has been a thing for a while" replies, so maybe I'm late, but I had never seen it.

What I learned from the comments: sriracha mayo is a bit flat unless you add some sweetness (one person suggested allulose), and buldak sauce mixed with mayo is the version most people liked. You eat it over rice like a banchan, or wrapped in onion (양파쌈). Someone who had it at a salmon restaurant said it was good, but plain raw salmon is still the best and this is more of a "once in a while" thing. And of course one comment just said it looks like vomit. Every food trend has that one person. I couldn't eat a lot of spicy mayo in one sitting, but over hot rice with gim this sounds dangerous. Would you try it, or is raw salmon too good to cover in sauce?

In Vietnam we mostly eat salmon as sashimi with wasabi, so this looks wild to me. The onion wrap part is what I'm curious about

5mintchoco_hater2026.10.05

Raw salmon is perfect as it is and Korea looked at it and said needs more mayo. ...I'd still eat it

Mayo-heavy first, got it. I'll report back with my tear count

7SoominOP2026.10.05

The comment who tried it just mixed buldak sauce with mayo and added more mayo when it was too spicy. Start mayo-heavy and taste, buldak doesn't forgive

5gochujang_gang2026.10.05

Buldak and mayo on salmon cubes over hot rice. I know what I'm doing this weekend. What ratio though, half and half?

Nobody gave an exact ratio, so I'd start around 2 mayo to 1 buldak and taste from there

5mintchoco_hater2026.10.05

↳

Everything is improved by mayo at 1am, salmon included. Don't fight it

5Fernanda_m2026.10.06

Your "...I'd still eat it" is the most Korean food review ever written

↳
7Sebin2026.10.07

Both can be true. Raw salmon is perfect, and perfect things also taste great in mayo once in a while

5tteok_and_roll2026.10.05

Salmon kkakdugi? That's a fish-ticated upgrade. Sorry

You salmon-ed up the courage to post that pun and I respect it

wasabi + mayo version for the Vietnam crowd, I'm calling it now

5Kasia2026.10.05

The vomit comment is rude but I scrolled back up and... I see it. Still want it

↳
6Dain2026.10.07

Every food is vomit if you look at it at 2am. This is a looks-bad-tastes-good situation

6kkt.882026.10.06

For me it's more of a 2차 bar snack with beer than a rice thing. Rice is the dangerous version, agreed

6Yuki2026.10.06

Raw salmon is too good to cover. I will now go cover it in sauce

6Jaehee2026.10.06

I'm late to every Korean food trend so this one being "a thing for a while" makes me feel right at home

Salmon and mayo over rice already works in poke bowls, so honestly this is just poke that moved to Korea and got spicier

↳
6Yuki2026.10.07

As a Japanese person I'm watching salmon go on a world tour and come back with tattoos

6Lukas932026.10.06

Is the salmon actually raw here or seared? Cubes of raw fish sitting in mayo makes me a bit nervous for a delivery item

5jjk_enjoyer2026.10.06

Salmon got cubed, sauced and put over rice. Truly the isekai protagonist of seafood

↳
5sleepy_jpg2026.10.07

salmon got reincarnated as a banchan with cheat skills

6ppalli_ppalli2026.10.06

Vocab: 양파쌈 (yangpa-ssam) = onion wrap. 쌈 is anything you wrap food in. Lettuce, perilla, now onion

↳
6Yoonseo2026.10.07

And 깍두기 comes from 깍둑썰기 (kkakduk-sseolgi), cutting into cubes. So the dish name is basically 'cube style'

5kimbap_kid2026.10.06

Kkakdugi but make it fish. Next year it'll be kkakdugi steak, mark my words

7Nari2026.10.07

Saw something like this at a small pub in Busan and thought it was the owner's own idea. Turns out the whole country had it

↳
6busan_or_bust2026.10.07

Do you remember roughly where the pub was? Building my Busan list

4Elif2026.10.07

how spicy is buldak + mayo actually? like on a scale of shin ramyun

↳
7SoominOP2026.10.07

Depends a lot on how much mayo goes in. Mayo-heavy is mild, and like the comments said, more mayo fixes most mistakes

↳
6kkt.882026.10.07

For most people here it's 'fine with rice'. For me it's 'needs a beer'

I would eat this every day for a week and then never again. That's my relationship with every mayo dish

↳

A week of joy, then 'never again'. Mayo dishes are a short romance

6hanbyeol2026.10.07

For anyone wondering: it's usually raw salmon and you eat it right away. People seem to make it at home more than order it

↳
6Lukas932026.10.07

Eaten right away, okay, that makes me feel better. Still not ordering it for delivery

↳
6Lukas932026.10.07

People making it at home more than ordering it is the good news in this thread

7Siwoo2026.10.07

For the spice-scared: buldak plus mayo is basically shin ramyun with a seatbelt

5Ploy2026.10.07

the onion wrap sounds like it cuts the mayo well, would try that first

5Elena.v2026.10.07

The "plain salmon is still the best" commenter is the voice of reason we all ignore

↳

Voice of reason, sure. But reason never made anything go viral

5Ayşe2026.10.07

Over hot rice with gim is the right call. That's how you turn a trend into dinner

3Jonas2026.10.07

lol true, every trend has the vomit guy

6hazel_n_honey2026.10.07

Allulose in sriracha mayo is a smart fix. Flat sriracha mayo is a real problem and nobody talks about it

↳
5Fernanda_m2026.10.07

Allulose fixing everything is the 2026 version of 'just add honey'

↳
6hazel_n_honey2026.10.07

Sriracha mayo without sweetness tastes like a sauce that's waiting for something. Allulose or honey, either is fine

5kimbap_kid2026.10.07

Put it in kimbap and I'm in. Salmon kkakdugi kimbap is the future

5gochujang_gang2026.10.07

Made a lazy version last night, buldak mayo over rice with gim. Two tears, zero regrets

5Ayşe2026.10.07

In Turkey we'd add lemon and parsley and call it a meze. Looks like a nice home dish honestly

6Yoonseo2026.10.07

Vocab: 깍두기 (kkakdugi) comes from 깍둑 (kkakduk), the sound/shape of cutting into chunky cubes. So the salmon is just cut the kkakdugi way

6meh_espresso2026.10.07

Covering perfect raw salmon in mayo is a choice. A delicious, regrettable choice

4Sølvi2026.10.07

Is it served cold or room temp? I'm trying to imagine cold salmon on hot rice

↳
7SoominOP2026.10.07

Cold salmon on hot rice, that's the point! The rice warms it a little and the mayo goes soft. Like a salmon don

6Seoa2026.10.07

Salmon mayo rice bowls are big in Japan too, so this feels like a spicy cousin of salmon mayo don

5Yasmin2026.10.07

Salmon kkakdugi is the transfer of the season. Came up through poke, signed with Korea, scored with buldak

6pixel_gremlin2026.10.07

Recipe level: cube, mayo, buldak, done. Even I can't speedrun-fail this one

3Saga2026.10.07

is buldak sauce the same as the noodle packet sauce or a separate bottle?

↳
7SoominOP2026.10.08

Separate bottle! Buldak sauce is sold on its own now. The packet sauce works too, just mix it with more mayo

7Junseo2026.10.07

koreans on the original post going "this has been around for a while" is the most korean comment section reaction to any trend lol

5cryingagain2026.10.07

I'm crying, I literally just ate and now I'm hungry again

↳

Same thing happened to me. I'm now cubing frozen salmon at midnight like a person with a plan

7Dahye2026.10.07

Sounds like something I'd order at a late bar in Seoul and then think about on the way home

5Chiara2026.10.07

This looks so good! Hot rice and gim is the perfect way to eat it

7Geonwoo2026.10.07

This is the kind of food my PC bang friends would eat at 3am and call it fine dining

6Jiyul2026.10.07

Raw salmon, mayo, hot rice. Somewhere a 2000s convenience store triangle kimbap is crying with pride

6Mateo2026.10.07

Random fact: 2차 means the second round of a night out, usually a new place after dinner. Salmon kkakdugi sounds very 2차

6Tomas2026.10.07

Salmon kkakdugi is what happens when the fish goes to the hair salon and asks for "something cubic"

5dongdong_2026.10.07

Salmon plus kkakdugi. Salmondugi. Done, name it, move on

↳
5tteok_and_roll2026.10.07

Salmondugi has a ring to it. Very 'mon'-umental

3lowkeylurker2026.10.07

lol same, I'd try it once

5gochujang_gang2026.10.07

Did the buldak version tonight with a small onion wrap like the comments said. The onion really does cut the mayo. Recommend

Salmon kkakdugi is a 2차 dish pretending to be dinner. Nobody eats it sober and calls it a meal
