BoA singing No.1 live at 15 on KBS (2002)

7MinjaeAm2026.10.18 12:23👁 1745💬 21♥ 43

This is a KBS stage from May 2002, BoA doing No.1 when she was 15. The moment that got me is the chorus while she's still dancing. The pitch doesn't wobble at all and she throws in ad-libs like it's nothing. Korean fans kept saying it sounds exactly like the studio version, and yeah, it really does. Every few years some new girl group gets sold as the next BoA, and every time people end up digging out clips like this one instead. I've been to a lot of shows and I can count on one hand the people who sing this clean while moving this much.

The bar moving is half true. Plenty of idols sing live and dance now, they just get roasted for every wobble while 2002 gets nostalgia goggles.

At 15 my biggest live performance was a school talent show where I forgot the second verse.

The bar moved, sure. Back then the backing track was a rumor, not a feature.

'Next BoA' is the K-pop version of 'the next Jordan'. Whoever gets it ends up crushed by the label.

What gets me is how calm her face is during the ad-libs. Fifteen and zero panic, on live TV.

15. i was learning long division at 15

Long division at 15 is a fair benchmark. I was still working out how not to burn rice.

the footwork while holding that note... our crew tried No.1 once and we were dead by the second chorus

Dead by the second chorus is the correct reaction

7velvetcrow2026.10.18

the 'next BoA' marketing needs to retire. you can't manufacture whatever this is

Retiring 'next BoA' is fair, but labels keep using it because it works as shorthand. The comparison is lazy, the clip isn't.

tbh 'sounds like the studio version' used to be the ultimate compliment and now people say it about every live they want to defend. the bar moved

'Sounded like the studio version' was a compliment for a reason. The bar moved, but the tools did too, in both directions.

15 with ad-libs and choreo at the same time. I get winded walking up the stairs at my station.

15 and doing ad-libs while dancing. my APM drops when I talk to my team

6Bingsu_Bandit2026.10.18

she's calm on live TV and I sweat ordering bingsu

↳
8Taeho2026.10.18

The calm face is a skill too. At that age most people's faces show every ounce of effort, and hers shows none, which I suspect is the training.

7Nari2026.10.18

Fifteen and already doing the 'I do this every day' face. I get nervous reading attendance out loud.

↳
7Junseo2026.10.19

reading attendance out loud is a harder skill check than people admit

8Taeho2026.10.18

the ad-libs get the credit, but the part I'd frame is a chorus that steady with choreography on top. at 15 most people can't even pick one of those.
