🔥A2O LITE Korean reaction: talented kids, styling that doesn't fit their age
I teach middle schoolers, so this one has been living in my head all week.
A2O LITE is the new girl group Lee Soo-man is behind, and three of the members, Ayune, OA and Aijing, were born in 2013. They're 13. People love the NEON performance, and you can see why in the relay dance above. Nobody in that group dances stiff. The criticism in Korea is mostly about the styling: short bottoms, cropped tops, and a few promo pics with kneeling or leaning-forward poses. One side says kids can debut if they have the skills, but the producers can't forget they're minors, and with choreography this intense the outfits should at least let them move comfortably. Even in a thread full of people gushing over the stage, one comment was basically "they're so good, but the skirts are too short, give them something longer." The other side says they don't see anything sexualized in the stages at all. To them it's just kids who can really dance, and the outrage is being put on the girls instead of the music. Then there's a separate thing that bothered me more than the clothes. AI avatars of the members were made for a paid fan chat app, and the three 13-year-olds were on the purchase list too, 6,800 won each. Overseas fans have been pushing back on that one hard. I'm on the "love the talent, fix the styling" side. The stage is great. But when my students are that age, the adults around them are supposed to be the ones thinking ahead, and a paid AI version of a 13-year-old is not that.
