PC bangs are only about 16% full on an average week
The weekly PC bang numbers for October 5 to 11 came out and one stat stuck with me: average seat occupancy across Korea was 16.1%. 15% on weekdays, 19% on weekends. I always pictured PC bangs as packed rows of people yelling at LoL at 2am, and I'm sure some are, but on average most seats are empty. Total PC bang playtime that week was about 15.84 million hours, up 5.8% on the week before thanks to the holidays, but down almost 20% from last year. ARC Raiders jumped 54 places after its Frozen Trail update, Roblox is sitting at 7th, and Lineage went up 21.7% after adding a new class. One chain is even running a playtime challenge where you can win Nexon Cash just for playing there. If you've never been, a PC bang is a Korean internet cafe with gaming PCs, and you can order ramyeon and snacks straight from your seat. On my one visit I spent more on ramyeon than on hours. It's a little sad to picture them slowly emptying out.
