deadlock beat tf2 on steam and it's not even out

ok i don't even play this but the steam chart this week is wild. valve's deadlock hit 262,145 players at the same time on oct 9 (steamdb numbers) which is above team fortress 2's best ever and it's STILL invite only, like you need someone already in to let you play it was sitting around 70k before the City Never Sleeps update at the end of september, then 6 new heroes plus a map rework dropped and it shot past 230k by the 7th. and players vote every week on which new heroes go into the real roster which is such a fandom thing to do lol it's basically a survival show for heroes everyone describes it as a moba mixed with a third person shooter, i'm just here bc one of the heroes is called rat king

the weekly hero vote is kind of genius

Valve is famous for very long betas. At least this one hands people something new every week.

Valve betas run on Valve time, so 'not even out' could mean 2029. Still hard to argue with 262k on an invite list.
