🔥jennie's first ever live of one of the girls and the internet split in half

7JunseoAm2026.10.11 16:06👁 6824💬 47♥ 91

the weeknd played two nights at goyang stadium this week, and on the second night (the 8th) jennie walked out as a surprise guest for one of the girls. it was the first time the two of them had ever performed it live together. the song was in the setlist on night one too, but she didn't show, so the crowd lost it when she actually appeared. full bangs, purple outfit, a hug at the end, and on the way off she told him in korean "주말오빠 (weekend oppa), have a good show".

then the clips hit social media and it turned into a fight. side a: her live vocals weren't good enough. pitch wobbling, not the polished version people know from the track, and on a stage that big some people felt she should have been more prepared. a korean post defending her says she was getting torn apart on x, tiktok, instagram and threads, and that post itself got more downvotes than upvotes, which tells you how the room felt. side b: a k-pop idol being asked onto the weeknd's tour stage at all is a big deal. western stadium shows usually don't run a backing track under the vocals the way k-pop stages often do, so you're hearing it raw. and the part she sang was originally lily-rose depp's, which wasn't written around her voice in the first place. i'm on side b. i'm canadian, so i've watched plenty of toronto artists do raw stadium vocals, and it never sounds like the studio version. it's a first-ever live of a duet, in a stadium, outdoors, in october. the wobble is the price of not lip-syncing, and i'd rather have that than a perfect playback.

'주말오빠' is going on a mug. Somebody make the mug.

'주말오빠' as a nickname for the Weeknd is going to live in my head forever

7Geonwoo2026.10.11

Bangs as a load-bearing wall. Skill issue, but make it fashion.

7Haneul2026.10.11

everyone's debating pitch and i'm still stuck on her calling him weekend oppa to his face 😭✨ the audacity

7Nari2026.10.11

Dial-up modem is harsh, but I'll admit mine would be more of a kettle.

8Dabin2026.10.11

ok as a blink the first live of a duet in a STADIUM is gonna be shaky, people act like they never heard a real mic before

↳
7Nari2026.10.11

Not gonna pretend I loved every note though. 'It's live' covers a lot but a few of those were properly off. Still braver than me at karaoke

7Geonwoo2026.10.11

Half the people complaining would sound like a dial-up modem on that stage.

8Taeho2026.10.11

I think both sides are partly right. Expectations for idols in Korea are built on very polished stages, so a raw stadium vocal sounds worse to that ear than it really is.

↳
7JunseoOP2026.10.11

yeah, that's kind of my point. the ear is calibrated to playback

7Minjae2026.10.11

The Weeknd chose her for the song. That's the part people skip over.

↳
7Gaeun2026.10.11

The full bangs and purple with that stage lighting was a very good look though.

weekend oppa is going in my phone as his contact name. also the hug at the end got me, whatever the pitch did 😭

Honestly, first live of a duet, outdoors, in October, in a stadium. I'd be more suspicious if it sounded exactly like the record.

↳
7Soomin2026.10.11

Not totally sold on the defence. Stadium or not, a few lines sounded unsure, and 'it's live' can't be the answer to everything.

↳
7Gaeun2026.10.11

Suspicious is a stretch. Plenty of people sound close to the record live, they just got proper rehearsal. A surprise guest slot gets what, one soundcheck?

8Taeho2026.10.11

Worth remembering she skipped the first night, so the crowd was primed for the second. That kind of hype makes any wobble feel louder in the clips than it did in the room.

↳
7Minjae2026.10.11

Fair point. Clips strip out the crowd, so all you hear is the wobble and none of the roar that covered it.

7Gaeun2026.10.11

If this were a rookie with the same wobble I doubt the comments would be this gentle. The bangs are carrying some of this defence.

↳
7Geonwoo2026.10.11

Bangs as a load-bearing wall. Skill issue, but make it fashion.

↳
7Nari2026.10.11

A rookie would've been clipped and memed by lunch. Jennie's wobble gets a 20-comment seminar instead. That's the fame tax.

7Haneul2026.10.11

the clips are all filmed from row 400 with wind noise and we're grading pitch like it's a studio session 😭😭

↳
8Dabin2026.10.11

no bc the wind noise in those clips is basically a third vocalist and nobody's grading IT

7Soomin2026.10.11

Is there a fan-cam with decent audio anywhere? The official one sounds fine but I'd like to hear what the crowd actually heard.

↳
7Dahye2026.10.11

also asking. the best fan-cam would be one where the person filming isn't crying

↳
8Taeho2026.10.11

Stadium sound is a mess in the back rows because of speaker delay, so the official clip and the wind-noise clips can both be telling the truth.

8Taeho2026.10.11

Brave and a bit flat can both be true. What I'd like to know is how much rehearsal a surprise guest actually gets before a stadium night. None of the clips tell us.

↳
7Nari2026.10.11

My guess is one soundcheck and a pat on the back. I've given presentations with more prep and nobody filmed me from row 400.

7Gaeun2026.10.11

A good outfit survives a phone camera in the wind better than a vocal does. Unfair, but that's how clips work.

7Gaeun2026.10.11

Purple under stadium lights can go muddy fast. It didn't. Whoever styled this earned their dinner.

7Haneul2026.10.11

everyone's debating pitch and i'm still stuck on her calling him weekend oppa to his face 😭✨ the audacity

7Minjae2026.10.11

Honest question for anyone who was there: how much of it was the crowd singing along? That changes what 'wobbly' even means in a stadium.

↳
7Nari2026.10.11

Wasn't there, but a crowd that got teased with a no-show on night one isn't grading pitch, it's screaming at the entrance. Wobble stood no chance.

↳
8Taeho2026.10.12

Stadium sound delay alone means the crowd and the stage are never quite together. A phone clip is a rough way to grade a duet.

7Gaeun2026.10.11

Full bangs in stadium wind is the real stunt here. I'd have spent the whole duet pushing hair out of my mouth.

↳
8Dabin2026.10.11

stadium wind plus full bangs and she still hit the hug on time. whoever's hairspray that was deserves a credit on the setlist

8Taeho2026.10.12

Funny that the song comes from a show most people would rather forget, and its best live moment is now a Korean guest calling him weekend oppa. Better afterlife than the series got.

7Gaeun2026.10.12

Whatever people thought of the vocals, the purple under those lights was the right call.

7Nari2026.10.12

Whoever called it the worst thing ever has never sung live into stadium wind. Karaoke at a bus stop was my limit.
