🔥Koreans hanging 10 charms off one bag is apparently ancestral
The keyring obsession in Korea is real. Bags, phones, earbud cases, everything dangles. A meme going around says it's literally in the DNA, and the receipts are pretty convincing.

In the Joseon era, people used 열쇠패 (yeolsoepae), basically a key tag, to tell their keys apart. It started out practical, metal or wood with what the key was for written on it.

Then, like every practical thing in Korea, it got decorated. People hung 별전 (byeoljeon) on them, ornamental coin charms, with silk cords. Byeoljeon apparently started as commemorative coins made while they were testing the metal content for the regular currency.

Every shape meant something. A fish for wealth, a butterfly for a happy marriage, a bat for good luck. So when someone today hangs a tiny bear, a tiny croissant and a tiny Jun photocard off one bag, that's not clutter. That's honoring tradition, and that's my defense.
