🔥NCT WISH albums are basically a toy store now, and Koreans who aren't even fans want them

6ppalli_ppalliAm2026.10.06 21:38Modified👁 6775💬 82♥ 93

Saw this on Instiz today. The title was roughly "the SM boy group that refuses to release anything that isn't pretty" and it's about NCT WISH's new mini album I SPY and all its versions.

There's the Deluxe Book version (the basic photobook), an SMini version, a disc pack, and for the first time an acrylic stand version. Then the poster dug up their older ones and that's where it gets silly: a keyring album with their mascot Wichu, a letter envelope album, a jelly camera album, and one that's a little water game console.

Best comment: "It wasn't like this before, but now WISH is number one for quality. There's something there that shakes an otaku's heart. Their production team knows something." Another said every WISH album is so good they envy the fans, and one person was honest that this one is a bit disappointing compared to the old ones. New word for me: 소장욕구 (sojang-yokgu), the urge to own and keep something. The poster isn't even a fan and says they get it every time a WISH album drops. Same.

Reminds me of buying a Red Velvet album purely for the cover back in the day. Packaging teams deserve a raise

6Ingrid2026.10.07

The WISH design team is playing a different league from the rest of SM right now. Keyring album is the midfielder that does everything

7Haeun2026.10.06

Version counts like this are also why album sales are so hard to compare between groups

6Hajun2026.10.07

Respect for the honesty. Most people pretend the trap ambushed them

4Taras2026.10.07

That album really holds water

5dami_dami2026.10.06

the green Wichu keyring one is so cute I'd hang it on my bag even without the CD

↳
5dami_dami2026.10.07

update: I stared at it for five more minutes and now I need it. this is how it starts

6Hajun2026.10.06

Pretty packaging is how they get you to buy six versions. A very cute trap

↳
6ppalli_ppalliOP2026.10.06

it IS a trap. I walked in willingly

↳
5Layla2026.10.07

Calling it a trap while knowing every version by heart. We see you

↳
5tiny.tigress2026.10.07

Every album is a trap. This one just has better bait

↳
5lol_true2026.10.07

lol true, a cute trap is still a trap

↳
5Oksana2026.10.07

"you got me in a trap" is the most accurate album review in this whole thread

7Haeun2026.10.06

Version counts like this are also why album sales are so hard to compare between groups

↳
6Ioana2026.10.06

Fair, but if people actually want the object, is that inflating? They're buying a toy that comes with music

↳
6ppalli_ppalliOP2026.10.07

true, but honestly I couldn't tell you a single WISH sales number. I'm here for the jelly camera

↳
6devils_avocado2026.10.07

Every group does versions though. At least these are things you'd keep, not a photobook you open once and shelve

↳
5Gyuwon2026.10.07

Version counts make comparisons hard, sure. But nobody is buying a disc pack to win an argument about charts

8Dabin2026.10.06

the water game console one omg i had one of those as a kid

↳
4Taras2026.10.07

That album really holds water

↳
6ppalli_ppalliOP2026.10.07

same!! the one where you press the button and the little rings fly around. lost whole afternoons to that

↳
5sleepy_jpg2026.10.07

me seeing the water game console: core memory unlocked

3yay_congrats2026.10.06

congrats on the comeback WISH!!

5Fernanda_m2026.10.07

jelly camera album sounds like something I'd grab at a stationery shop in Seoul and only later realize there's music inside

6Tomas2026.10.07

Water game console album is the most 2000s birthday party gift a group has ever released. Do you press the button and the CD floats into the ring?

6velvetrabbit2026.10.07

Reminds me of buying a Red Velvet album purely for the cover back in the day. Packaging teams deserve a raise

6meh_espresso2026.10.07

Waiting for the album that comes as a working mini fridge. Limit three per person

6Yoonseo2026.10.07

Adding vocab: 굿즈 (gutjeu) = goods/merch, and 앨범깡 (album-kkang) = ripping open a stack of albums hunting for a card. This post is a 굿즈 post wearing an album costume

6Olu2026.10.07

Newbie question: if you buy one version, is the photocard member random? Or fixed per version?

↳
6hanbyeol2026.10.07

Usually random. Korean fans trade them a lot through 교환 (exchange) posts, so it's normal to buy one and trade for your bias

↳
6hanbyeol2026.10.07

Pretty much. That's why the trade posts exist. People are surprisingly honest about it too

↳
5curiosa_br2026.10.08

so if I want one member I just hope? that sounds stressful

6Ingrid2026.10.07

The WISH design team is playing a different league from the rest of SM right now. Keyring album is the midfielder that does everything

4Sofia2026.10.07

congrats on I SPY!! the acrylic stand version is so pretty

6hanbyeol2026.10.07

Some context: a lot of these look like 문방구 (old school stationery shop) toys. That hits childhood memories for many Koreans, fan or not, which is probably why non-fans want them

↳
6Lukas932026.10.08

Is the 문방구 thing deliberate on their part or is that just how the comments read it? Curious if the label ever said so

7Nari2026.10.07

Busan stationery shops still sell those water ring games for like a couple thousand won. WISH just added a CD

6Yuki2026.10.07

I used to make fun of people buying albums for the box. Now I own a box I have no CD player for

7Dahye2026.10.07

The jelly camera one is the cutest thing in this post. I'd put it on my desk next to my actual camera

5Kofi.A2026.10.07

Album that's a toy, toy that's an album. Whoever pitched this in the meeting deserves a bonus

6hazel_n_honey2026.10.07

The photobook versions are fine but the novelty ones are what people actually keep on the shelf after a year

5Jules2026.10.07

The letter envelope one is the smartest design here. It looks like something that actually came in the mail, not a product

7Junseo2026.10.07

the I SPY acrylic stand version being the first one ever is kind of a big deal for SM, usually that's a separate goods drop

7Siwoo2026.10.07

Grabs popcorn. Next version: album that comes as a tamagotchi you have to feed or the photocard dies

↳
6meh_espresso2026.10.07

Tamagotchi album where the photocard fades if you skip streaming. Don't give them ideas

4Arif2026.10.07

which one did people call disappointing? the new album overall or one version?

↳
6ppalli_ppalliOP2026.10.07

one commenter said the new I SPY versions felt a bit disappointing next to the old ones, not the music. mostly about the designs

6Jaehee2026.10.07

I bought a TXT version once just for the cover and then had to explain to my mum why there were five of the same CD

7Minjae2026.10.07

Carats with the hanger album know this pain. Cute packaging, zero shelf space left

6Zeynep2026.10.07

The disc pack is the one I'd actually display. Clean, doesn't scream merch

7Gaeun2026.10.07

The packaging colors are so consistent across all of them. Pastel green, soft yellow, nothing loud. Someone has a real moodboard there

*screams in 소장욕구* the envelope one looks like an actual letter from a friend

5gochujang_gang2026.10.07

The jelly camera one would look so good next to a lunchbox, very 문방구 vibe like the comment said

3Marta2026.10.07

Unpopular take, the new I SPY versions look a bit plain next to the older ones. The comment that called it disappointing has a point

↳
5Freja2026.10.07

Plain is fine though. Not every album needs to be a toy. The acrylic stand one is clean and people will actually use it

↳
5tiny.tigress2026.10.08

Plain? The acrylic stand version is the first of its kind. Plain is a choice

5Noor2026.10.07

Me: I only stream. Also me: staring at a keyring album for a group I barely know. 소장욕구 got me

5Aisha2026.10.07

This is such a cute concept for a group that young. They feel like a gift you'd give someone

5Chaeyun2026.10.07

"I spy with my little eye" a credit card statement after this comeback

↳
6Omar2026.10.08

"I spy" more like "I spend"

6Mateo2026.10.07

Random fact: Wichu is their mascot and shows up across a lot of their merch, not only the albums

↳
6Mateo2026.10.07

Wichu is also on a lot of their fan event goods. The mascot is doing more promo than some members

5cryingagain2026.10.07

I'm crying, the water game console one made me remember my cousin's one that I broke and never confessed

↳
4Nurul2026.10.07

Confess now. It's been years. Your cousin deserves closure

5Noor2026.10.07

I don't even know the songs and I'm already picking a version. That's the 소장욕구 working on me in real time

4Sofia2026.10.07

congrats WISH!! the SMini one is tiny and adorable

6Dain2026.10.07

The keyring album would sell out at any idol cafe pop-up. I've seen people buy the cafe goods without even ordering a drink

8Dabin2026.10.07

i NEED the letter envelope one, ive been collecting album packaging for years and this is the first one that made me gasp out loud

4Rafa2026.10.07

💌🫶

The keyring album is the size of a ramyun seasoning packet and somehow ten times more tempting

6ppalli_ppalliOP2026.10.07

From the photos it looks like the real thing, rings and buttons and all. That's why people lost it

5Fernanda_m2026.10.07

The pastel green is so good. Would love a beauty brand to steal this packaging for a lip tint

5snowyowl_2026.10.07

which one comes with the most photocards?

5nunchi_zero2026.10.08

I bought one album in my life and the cashier asked which version and I panicked and said "the normal one." There was no normal one

I will be buying the keyring one and pretending it's for my niece

6Lukas932026.10.08

Is the water console a real working toy or just shaped like one? Big difference for my wallet

50xDEAD2026.10.08

The water game console album is the only album I'd actually play with. Still wouldn't listen to it, but I'd play with it

4Linh2026.10.08

do the old ones like the jelly camera still get restocked or is that sold out forever?
