ASL final is set: Yoo Young-jin's redemption arc vs Kim Min-chul, who already won four

50xDEADAm2026.10.06 18:25👁 952💬 26♥ 40

Second ASL Season 22 semi was on Oct 6 at the FreecUP studio in Daechi-dong, and Kim Min-chul beat Park Sang-hyun 4-2 in ZvZ. So the final is Yoo Young-jin, back after eight seasons with two lost finals, against Kim Min-chul, who won four in a row up to Season 19 and now wants a fifth.

Park actually went up 2-0. Game 1 he answered Kim's early zerglings with a raid on the main. Game 2 he built a Hatchery in the corner of his own main, pumped larvae and walked in before Kim's natural was even finished. Then game 3 Park had to open with three Overlords, Kim kept picking them off, and it flipped. Four straight. Game 6 was a fast pool with zerglings split into two groups hitting the natural from two sides. So: the guy who has never won it, or the guy who owns four. I've watched enough LCK to know redemption arcs usually end 3-0 the wrong way. Who are you picking?

pain is the correct expectation

Two lost finals vs four titles. Underdog vs the club with the trophy cabinet. Rooting for the underdog, expecting pain

A Hatchery in the corner of your own main in a pro semi is the most PC bang plan I've ever heard

6Hajun2026.10.06

Kim winning a fifth is the boring answer, which in Brood War means it's the likely one

5Matías2026.10.07

Boring on paper, sure. But finals aren't played on paper and Kim knows that better than anyone

Corner hatchery is what my friend did at the PC bang in 2004. He lost. The difference is this guy went up 2-0

rooting for the underdog with zero expectations is the healthiest way to watch a final

Down 0-2 in ZvZ and winning four straight. ZvZ is a coin toss and he won the coin toss four times

four coin tosses in a row is either skill or the coin is on his payroll

Four titles in a row and still showing up hungry. That's scarier than any build

7Geonwoo2026.10.07

Picking Yoo Young-jin because I need one Brood War story with a happy ending this year

↳
7Geonwoo2026.10.07

Same. Brood War owes us one happy ending, and he's been paying for it for eight seasons

6Lukas932026.10.07

How have these two done against each other recently? Head to head would tell me more than the redemption story

↳
5Matías2026.10.07

Head to head doesn't say much in ZvZ, it's so swingy. The 0-2 to 4-2 in this semi is proof

6Ingrid2026.10.07

Coming back from 0-2 in ZvZ is like being 2-0 down at halftime and scoring four. Momentum is everything going into a final

5offside_oppa2026.10.07

Underdog with two lost finals against the club with four trophies. I've seen this match, it's in every derby season

6devils_avocado2026.10.07

Devil's advocate: maybe Yoo losing two finals is what makes him dangerous. He knows exactly what that stage feels like

6kkt.882026.10.07

ASL on a weeknight with chimaek is a whole office worker lifestyle here. Final night is going to be loud

6Tomas2026.10.07

Kim Min-chul won four, Yoo Young-jin lost two. Either way someone ends up with a new number

7Dahye2026.10.07

I don't follow StarCraft at all but "back after eight seasons with two lost finals" made me want to watch the final

6pixel_gremlin2026.10.07

Someone tell Yoo Young-jin to build a Hatchery in his own main. It apparently works until it doesn't

7Haeun2026.10.07

Four titles is a ridiculous number for one league. Kim is the statistical answer, Yoo is the emotional one

5jjk_enjoyer2026.10.07

Two lost finals, back after eight seasons. That's a sports anime script. No writer lets him lose a third time... right?

5Tenzin2026.10.07

Whoever wins, it's nice that ASL is still running in 2026. Some leagues just keep going

6Jiyul2026.10.07

A redemption arc final in Brood War in 2026. Feels like a 2000s OST should play over the intro
